The Burbs, a thought in progress

by

1–2 minutes

I have a confession. I often view the area I live, the streets and parks that surround me, with little interest, photographically at least. Instead looking for events to document in far flung parts of the city or beyond, often going dormant while I wait for something ‘interesting‘ to happen.

This is not something that I alone have succumbed to, it is bordering on an artisitic or photographers cliche. Breaking out of this so that I am no longer robbed of the wonders out my front door is something that is important to me. To reawaken my minds eye to seeing what I currently miss so that it can be photographed and shared with others in the hopes that they too may start to see the wonders on their own doorsteps.

The project, for now at least, shall be called ‘The Burbs’. A literal interpretation but sometimes getting a project happening can feel like moving a boulder. So I’m keeping things simple, rocking the rock, building the momentum, just so I can get moving and obtain any progress I can. To this end. Today I left my home, camera in tow, and walked the streets of my local area. Below you will find a photo series of images I made during my exploration followed by a sample of inspiration I have been looking at as I research for the project.
